Interleukin 6 (IL-6) is a multifunctional cytokine, which regulates immune responses, hematopoiesis, acute phase responses, and inflammatory reactions.
MACS GMP Recombinant Human IL-6 is designed for
ex vivo
cell culture processing. No animal- or human-derived materials were used for the manufacture of this product, unless otherwise stated in the respective Certificate of Origin. The product is lyophilized without carrier protein or preservatives.
Disclaimer
MACS GMP Products are for research use and
ex vivo
cell culture processing only, and are not intended for human
in vivo
applications. For regulatory status in the USA, please contact your local representative.
Background information
IL-6 is mainly produced by monocytes and macrophages, but as well by fibroblasts or endothelial cells. IL-6 is one of the most important mediators of fever and of the acute phase response. IL-6 induces the terminal maturation of a tivated B cells into plasma cells, and in combination with other factors like IL-2 and IFN-γ it also affects cytotoxic T lymphocytes.
Applications
MACS GMP Recombinant Human IL-6 can be used for a variety of applications, including the
ex vivo
generation of human dendritic cells from enriched CD14
+
monocytes.

Quality statement
MACS GMP Products are manufactured and tested under a quality management system (ISO 13485) and are in compliance with relevant GMP guidelines. They are designed following the recommendations of USP <1043> on ancillary materials.
Biological activity
The specific activity is determined by proliferation assay according to Gaines-Das and Poole
1
using B9 hybridoma cells provided by the German Resource Centre for Biological Material (DSMZ). The proliferation assay was calibrated with the international standard for human IL-6 (NIBSC code 89/548) provided by the National Institute for Biological Standards and Control.
Mass spectrometry analysis (ESI-MS) of MACS GMP Recombinant Human IL-6. The peak corresponds to the calculated molecular mass of 20812 Da.
