Human TNF-related apoptosis inducing ligand (TRAIL), also known as Apo2 ligand, is part of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) superfamily. It is a cytotoxic protein, which activates rapid apoptosis in tumor cells, but not in normal cells. Apoptosis is induced via the activation of caspases 8 and 10, due to the binding of TRAIL to DR4 and DR5, two death-signaling receptors.
