Bone morphogenetic protein 6 (BMP-6) is a member of the bone morphogenetic protein family, which is part of the TGF-β superfamily. BMP-6 plays an important role in embryogenesis, tissue morphogenesis, and cell differentiation and migration. It can signal through various receptor complexes inducing SMAD signaling and other processes. Differential expression of BMP-6 may be associated with progression of breast and prostate cancer.
